The Top 5 Teas To Fight Inflammation

By Jasmine Dilmanian The Top 5 Teas To Fight Inflammation

The functional medicine world these days has established consensus that inflammation is a huge commonality among people with all kinds of ailments, from general fatigue autoimmune disorders to grave illnesses. While we can’t pinpoint a specific cause, we know that inflammation definitely isn’t doing us any favors wellness-wise—and we’re all affected by it to some degree.

Sometimes we can even feel inflammation in our bodies, like in stiff joints and bloated bellies—in this case, it’s obvious. But incremental changes in small habits, like how we move, whom we socialize with and what we eat and drink, can gradually chip away at the puffiness and help us look and feel our best over time.

The rainy season certainly doesn’t help—April showers might exacerbate any existing inflammation, and studies show that dry weather is in fact best for people with chronic conditions like arthritis. That said, we can’t always control our location, and a lot of us are destined to feel all four seasons in their full glory.

At Heavenly Tea Leaves, we’ve done our due diligence to make sure that our offerings are of the highest quality, and that we have a variety to lend all kinds of wellness benefits. In this case, we’ve landed on these five powerful (and tasty) enemies of inflammation—in the form of gourmet loose-leaf tea.

  1. Organic Turmeric Ginger

Turmeric’s golden reputation as an inflammation fighter comes from curcumin, its star compound. This powerhouse has been shown to mitigate chronic inflammation, including in the gut (where it matters a lot). Pair it with spicy ginger, citrusy lemongrass, and sweet licorice root, and you've got wellness in a (very pleasing) cup.

  1. Ginger Jazz

Ginger is perhaps the most oft-cited ingredient when it comes to combating inflammation (thanks to its unique bioactive compounds), so naturally, we’re suggesting a ginger tea. But not just any ginger tea! This one includes a bevy of nutritious ingredients like rosemary, licorice root and cardamom, making it a delicious alternative to our rooibos blends.

  1. Rooibos Cream Chai

This flavor delivers a rooibos and cinnamon one-two punch, solidifying it among the most anti-inflammatory of our offerings. Components like aspalathin lend rooibos its powers, while cinnamon relies on polyphenols to keep inflammation at  bay.  As a bonus, this unique blend is caffeine-free and arguably the most delicious of this bunch—especially if you’re into bold flavors.

  1. Hibiscus

With anthocyanins and flavonoids leading the way, hibiscus is a major contender among inflammation-busting teas. This flower’s distinct color and flavor make it a yummy and wholesome choice. Plus, now that the weather is warming up, this is the best option to drink iced (a delicacy in Mexico called Agua de Jamaica) when you’re not craving a hot beverage.

  1. Just Green

Rich in antioxidants and catechins, this organic, high-quality green tea is plain and straightforward, as its name suggests. (We’d hate to confuse you.) This superfood (super drink!) has been shown to reduce inflammation in the stomach, skin, liver and more—a true gift to the body. As a bonus, it also boasts anti-aging properties.

Hot tip: Add a squeeze of fresh lemon to any and all of these teas to jazz up the flavor, add some natural sweetness, and of course provide a kick of Vitamin C. This spring, we’re looking forward to keeping the bloat and swelling away, looking svelte, and getting to taste all of these delectable flavors. Bottoms up!
