Jessica Day of The Miami Herald lauded green tea as the category leader when it comes to weight loss, but also named other unexpected ones that complement a healthy lifestyle: “The perfect tea for weight loss is green tea because it contains a compound called catechins, which have been shown to help burn fat and boost metabolism. Other teas that may be beneficial for weight loss include oolong, pu-erh, white, and rooibos.”
Going with green tea is always a sure bet when it comes to weight maintenance (and most other things). Lower levels of caffeine can still provide you with energy while reducing some of the potential side effects. If you are sensitive to caffeine, look for a decaffeinated option that still has beneficial weight loss properties.” Day warns about the dangers of over-caffeination, pointing to green tea once again as a beverage with the just-right amount for most people, assuming it isn’t over-consumed (maximum four cups daily): “Ensuring that you drink the proper amount of green tea every day can help make sure you don’t get too much caffeine in your diet, which can be detrimental to health if consumed in large amounts.”
For those not in favor of caffeine at all, you might consider Hibiscus tea, popular on ice in South America. And for those who are totally in favor of caffeine but like to stay true to the classics, black teas like English Breakfast provide deep flavor and satisfaction along with the weight loss kickstart thanks to the production of “good bacteria” in the microbiome (but easy on the milk).
