Pu'er tea, otherwise known as dark tea, is an ancient form of tea usually pressed into cakes. Traditionally, this was done as a preservation method for teas traveling long and far. The flavors of Pu'er are known to improve with age by way of fermentation. There are two main categories of Pu'er tea, ripe (shu) and raw (sheng). Our Pu'er Shu is made from leaves grown at 1200 meters, where the fermentation process has been accelerated by way of "wet-piling" the leaves. This Pu'er Shu was produced in 2006.

Ingredients: Pu-erh tea

smooth

I am not really sure how to brew this tea, there are no instructions, so I broke a piece off the cake and put it in the tea strainer and steeped it for 3 minutes.. I hope that was right.. resulting tea was mild and smooth, refreshing.

A liitle weak

I will start with a disclaimer. I am not used drinking Pu'er. I followed some instructions from a tea master on utube but gave up watching because after 10' he was finally pouring some water. I am definitely not in this class of tea connoisseurs. I followed what I usually do, 2-3 teaspoons for 16oz, almost boiling water, and steep for 4-5 minutes. The taste of the tea was very good, smooth but I expected more boldness. Maybe I need to use a bit more tea. My taste buds and nose are not as refined/trained as those of others, so forgive me if I cannot give you the specifics smells/tastes. I was expecting an energy kick but didn't really get that feeling. I drank this a few hours before going to bed and had no problem sleeping at all. It is a very good tea and affordable for $0.40 per cup.
